Bridging design and manufacturing

Bachelor’s Degree Thesis in Fashion Design and Multimedia Arts | Fashion Design curriculum

Partners: BCN Concerie | Monde (Metal-on-demand) | Ykk Italia

Three students from the three-year degree course in Fashion Design and Multimedia Arts, specifically the Fashion Design curriculum, were selected to develop their degree thesis in collaboration with several companies operating in Veneto and Tuscany, specializing in tanning and the production of metal accessories.

The project development process was characterised by a two-pronged approach. On the one hand, intangible research examined the role of bags in defining silhouettes and induced gestures, while on the other, the material components of the project were refined through applied research and constant consultation with specialised technicians within the companies.

The project was developed in collaboration with companies highly specialised in the tanning sector and the development of small metal parts, ensuring direct interaction with production processes and the specific characteristics of the materials used. The methodology adopted included preliminary analysis, design experimentation, and prototyping, enabling the exploration of innovative solutions and the comparison of design hypotheses with real-world production constraints.

The experience enabled the integration of theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and design sensitivity, contributing to tangible projects and reflections in the context of contemporary fashion design, with a focus on the values of Italian manufacturing.g.
